Real Food Remix Winter Holidays Healthy Dessert Edition – Day 2.

Over the weekend we looked at a raw pistachio cream pie recipe.

Today, paleo-fied eggnog! 

And why not?  Eggnog is synonymous with the winter holidays! (stay tuned for the eggnog cream pie later this week)

This paleo eggnog was pretty much identical to the real thing when it came to taste..  And what I mean by that is, if you closed your eyes and drank it, you would not be able to tell the difference.  This tasted fantastic!

Typical store bought eggnog uses pasteurized (processed, food-like product) dairy cream and/or milk and processed sugars, a long with other not so body vitality-friendly ingredients (we covered some of these on Instagram here)

Not our eggnog.. 100% real food so the body can recognize, digest and assimilate the food properly compared to food-like product alternatives.

This paleo egg nog recipe is 100% raw, dairy-free, gluten-free and paleo & ovo-vegetarian-friendly.

Fancy a glass?

Ingredients

1 can full fat coconut milk 

1 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (homemade recipe for 5 different nut milks here)

6 pastured egg yolks

1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

3/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg (don’t cheat here and use pre-ground.  It won’t be the same)

1/4 teaspoon ground allspice

Optional:  Eggnog can be traditionally made with bourbon whiskey or rum if you want to add it. I didn’t test this out, so if you choose to add it, add to taste! 😉

Paleo Eggnog Recipe

 

Directions

1.  Blend all ingredients in a blender and when thoroughly mixed, pour into glass container and refrigerate.

2.  When serving, dust the top of the glass with a light sprinkling of freshly grated nutmeg.

How simple was that?  

My suggestion, have some fun with it when you make it and tell your friends, family, guests or whoever you serve it to its regular ol’ eggnog..  Then watch the smile on their faces, followed by the ever so popular “mmm” response!   It won’t disappoint.
